Paper Abstract:
|
The study compared the effect of three different instructor interventions on teacher candidates interactions in an asynchronous discussion board. These participants were enrolled in three different sections of the same blended course. In the first section (Group 1), the instructor responded to students messages regarding the discussion question, but did not require students to respond to other classmates postings. In the second section (Group 2), the instructor did not respond to students message on the discussion question but required students to respond to at least one of their classmates posting. In the third section (Group 3), the instructor did not respond to students messages regarding the discussion question and did not required students to respond to at least one of their classmates posting. Data were analyzed by using One Way ANOVA. The results indicated that for three discussion sections, students did not post any replies to their classmates initial postings in Group 1, while Group 1 generated more initial posting than group 2 and group 3. Group 2 generated significantly more replies to their peers than Group 1 and Group 3. Results of the study shown that mostly absent instructor in the discussion process and students obligation to respond to their classmates posting leaded to more interaction among students during asynchronous discussion groups. |
